Çanakkale (Dardanelles)

Gallipolis... It is coming from ancient Greek language. Kalli means beautiful in the language. Polis means city. Combination of both words creates name of the city "beautiful city". Gallipoli take an important place for history.  Lydian, Spartan, Roman and Byzantian lived the city. Port and commercial possibilities of Gallipoli made the city significant part of the history. Also, for Turks, Gallipoli was a first passage point from Anatolia to Europe when Ottoman Empire decided to conquer the east of the Europe. Furthermore, The Gallipoli Campaign was important for Turks to defend their nations at World War I. There information sign that Gallipoli is strategic position for many states throughout history.

Fazıl Say is one of best known Turkish composers in the town. The Year of Troia is celebrating with different events.Story of the event is here. Çanakkale Municipality agreed with Fazıl Say to compose a sonata about Trojan Legend few months ago. Fazıl Say influenced the history of Troia and Homer's  İliad and Odyssey when he composed the sonata. Premier of the sonata will be Çanakkale on 9 August when is the first day of International Troia Festival events. 2018 is announced the Year of Troia in Turkey by Ministry of Culture and Tourism because ancient Troia city was selected World Heritage List by UNESCO in 1998. Nowadays, we are celebrating 20th year of the selection so there are many events at Çanakkale. One of events is the Neverland: Troya Exhibition. You can see many artworks which is made from glass and ceramic. Also, there are some photographs, graphic design, video works. To discover the exhibition, you can visit Piri Reis Museum which is nearest the Trojan Horse at center of the Çanakkale.
