History of Assos

Welcome to one of important cities of history which is Assos. Assos was founded by Methymnians which came from Lesbos island in the 7th century. After collapse of Lydian Kingdom, Persians took control of the city but in 365 BC, Eubolos who was a banker, campaigned Persians and won the freedom.After his term, his slave who was Hermias continued development of the city. Hermias was a student of Plato's Academy. Therefore, Hermias founded an academy at Assos and he made an agreement with Aristotle and Xenocrates to give lectures for the public.  When the academy was founded in Assos, West of the Anatolia met with philosophy. To understand importance of the philosophy, an event is arranged by some academicians nowadays in memoriam of Aristotle.  Aristotle lived the Assos three years and in this term he married with Hermias' niece. After leaving Aristotle from the city 347 BC, the city was captured by Persians again. Alexander the Great saved the city after Granikos Wars in 334 BC.

Neverland: Troya Exhibition

2018 is announced the Year of Troia in Turkey by Ministry of Culture and Tourism because ancient Troia city was selected World Heritage List by UNESCO in 1998. Nowadays, we are celebrating 20th year of the selection so there are many events at Çanakkale. One of events is the Neverland: Troya Exhibition. You can see many artworks which is made from glass and ceramic. Also, there are some photographs, graphic design, video works. To discover the exhibition, you can visit Piri Reis Museum which is nearest the Trojan Horse at center of the Çanakkale.
