Çanakkale (Dardanelles)

International Troia Festival is waiting for you. The festival is important to introduce beauty of Çanakkale because it has many places and historical background. Name of the festival also signed that purpose since ancient Troia city was found nearside of the city center.  Not just Troia is here, but also Assos and Gallipoli are there. About the festival, it has been arranged since 1963 but this year will be special because it is announced as the Year of Troia. UNESCO selected the ancient Troia city for World Heritage List. We are celebrating 20th year of the selection. Some events are declared by Municipality of Çanakkale. Exhibitions, concerts, theaters and other events will be arranged for public without any charge. Also, the municipality contacted with Fazıl Say to compose the Trojan Sonata. Trojan Sonata's premier will be 9th August at Çanakkale. At Özgürlük Parkı, there will be arranged some concerts by Erol Evgin, Resul Dindar, Mehmet Erdem, Barcelona Gipsy Balkan Orc

Gallipolis... It is coming from ancient Greek language. Kalli means beautiful in the language. Polis means city. Combination of both words creates name of the city "beautiful city". Gallipoli take an important place for history.  Lydian, Spartan, Roman and Byzantian lived the city. Port and commercial possibilities of Gallipoli made the city significant part of the history. Also, for Turks, Gallipoli was a first passage point from Anatolia to Europe when Ottoman Empire decided to conquer the east of the Europe. Furthermore, The Gallipoli Campaign was important for Turks to defend their nations at World War I. There information sign that Gallipoli is strategic position for many states throughout history.

Çanakkalelilerin bir diğer favori festivali olan Uluslararası Gelibolu Altın Sardalya Kültür ve Sanat Festivali bu yıl 07-12 Ağustos tarihleri arasında düzenlenecek. Saros Körfezi'nin meşhur balığı sardalya ile özdeşleşmiş olan bu festival, her sene olduğu gibi birçok etkinliğe ev sahibi olacak. Program açıklandığında hemen sizlerle paylaşacağım. Gallipolis... Eski Yunanca'dan kalma bu isim aslında "güzel şehir" demektir.  Gelibolu'yu o tarihlerde Gelibolu'yu güzel kılan tarih boyunca liman ve ticaret merkezi oluşudur. Buradan birçok uygarlık geçmiştir bazıları ise Lidyalılar,Spartalılar, Romalılar ve Bizanslılar. Günümüzde ise bizler bu şehrin koruycusuyuz. Gelibolu bizim tarihimizde de çok büyük yer edinmiştir. Bunlardan birisi Türklerin Avrupa'ya geçişinde ilk nokta oluşu. Diğeri ise Çanakkale Cephesi'nde dünyaya karşı verdiğimiz büyük mücadele. Ayrıca Osmanlı İmparatorluğu'na ait tersanesi olan büyük bir askeri deniz üssüne de bir zamanlar şahitlik etmiştir. Sadece bu üç bilgi de aslında Gelibolu'nun yıllar boyunca birçok kavim için stratejik öneme sahip olduğunu göstermektedir.
